Hey Everyone!! I’ve heard this blog is now reaching modelers all around the big blue globe with readership levels in the stratosphere! Ok then…a little birdie told me that if you weren’t at the Havre Bullhook RC Club Invitational FunFly you missed out big. Max Hinrichs let John Sandy and I know they were having a get-together out to the Havre field and to round up the Great Falls rascals and come on up. John put out the word over all mediums, phone, email, probably over the air on 72MHz 🙂 and he may have even mailed a letter. In the end it was only John and I from Great Falls who made the trip. Just meant more of John’s great stories for me and not you. Some of the guys from Havre included Dan Horinek, Dan Blackiston, Larry Olson and three other folks I didn’t happen to write down names of.
So John said he wanted to get going early and asked if I wanted to ride with him…the sun wasn’t even up when we left. After nearly two hours of watching tumbleweeds blow around the empty prairie we finally pulled into Havre and stopped at Town Pump to use the facilities. I grabbed a cup of coffee and we headed out to the field which is named “Prairie Farms.” It sits up on top of a knoll about 4 miles north east of Havre with an incredible view. John and I were the first guys there and John was confident he knew the gate combo…nope. John called Max to get the combo and we were in.
I picked out a table, unloaded my plane from John’s truck, and got in the first flight before the air traffic became congested. Temps started in the high 50s and made it to about 75. Winds were less than 5mph coming straight down the club’s grass runway, west to east. The runway has a slight incline or decline depending on your direction but it turned out to be insignificant once you got your first flight in. And fly I did – flew 5 times before lunch and another 5 times after lunch. Speaking of lunch…there I was, starving, hundreds of miles from Great Falls, and next thing I know – free pizza showed up! Oh yah.
Ok, enough of me rambling on – here’s some visuals from the day.

That sure is a nice 90" Carbon Cub! We're looking south towards the Bear Paw Mountains.

The Gangs all here!
